In March 2013 the government announced that they would introduce a dedicated primary P.E. and Sports Premium that would go directly to primary school head teachers so that they could decide how best to use it to provide sporting activities for pupils.
The government has since announced that they would continue the P.E. funding in Primary Schools for the academic year 2022-23.
Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:
We have used the funding at Jerry Clay Academy, to ensure that children have the most qualified teachers and instructors during their P.E. lessons in order to increase the subject knowledge of our staff. This has included buying in training and support for teachers from our local sports partnership. Some of the funding has been used to increase the range of extra-curricular activities and subsidised or funded a number of these clubs. In addition, we have used the money to promote a healthy and active lifestyle through a targeted lunchtime club. Please access the link below for the detailed action plan & impact reports.
We are very proud of the fact that the academy has now been awarded the Gold award for Sports and Games in 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2022. We are now eligible to aim for the Platinum award. We also won a regional award for increased participation in sports and competitions. Even though the Sports Mark didn’t run during the COVID period, we were relentless in ensuring our children had access to a great sports offer at home. As a result of our work, we were awarded a ‘Lockdown’ award.
